It’s been a while since I’ve posted but celebrations have continued during this time. It’s been extra difficult to find decor during this pandemic, so it’s been completely rewarding to be able to design it myself.
Below you will find our Christmas in July party decor. This year’s theme was “It’s Christmas, let’s flamingle!”
Mom also turned 70 recently and what better theme than the 70s.

Aarya was turning 7 and during the COVID19 pandemic it was hard for her to find decor that fit the theme, so I made her some toppers to go on her cake!
And here’s a picture of how she used them in her cake! So easy and so great because you can place them anywhere you want. No fuss, no muss!
Happy birthday Aaraya!

The first cake of 2020 was a fun one.
Who wouldn’t want a cake that had donuts, sprinkles and chocolate drip? Inside was a sprinkle vanilla cake too! Top everything off with a gold glitter topper and this cake is perfect for anyone.

As I was looking over my orders from the past year, I realized I had forgotten to post this set up!
Valentina had her Holy Communion and I was asked to make a painted buttercream cake. This was my first try and I think it came out pretty well. Of course no cake is complete without a glittery gold topper!
Sugar cookies adorned with pink cake lace and golden Vs were placed at each guest place setting.
For a special treat I made donut kebabs. Three mini donuts dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with edible pearls. These were a hit with the kids (big and small).

This hot pink drip cake was made for a special lady turning 60. Inside was a vanilla sponge cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh strawberries. White chocolate was used as the drip and then hand painted gold for an extra pop of colour. Macarons and sugar flowers adorn the cake. As well as the gold glitter topper.
Dehvan turned 5 and loves Power Rangers Dino Charge. This year I couldn’t make his cake so my client asked for cookies on sticks so that she could put them in the cake herself as decor.
It was a lot harder than I thought to make sugar cookies on sticks that didn’t fall off! But I did it! All the cookies were decorated with royal icing.
Dehvan also wanted a glittery cake topper like his sister had for her birthday so I made something to match that was more “boyish”.

Way back in the olden days of Grade 7 or 8 we read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This book quickly became one of my favorite books. Add to this the amazing movie with all stars such as Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio and Emilio Estevez and it’s hard to not fall in love.
My client is equally obsessed with this movie, so when it came around to finding a theme for her birthday, naturally, it was a no-brainer. The only issue…there’s no decor out there for The Outsiders. I accepted the challenge.
My client was very specific about what she wanted. She wanted logo and signs of the specific locations in the book. The only problem was some of these locations didn’t really exist in real life and the movie only showed basic random buildings.
The DX sign was actually the easiest sign because it actually exists. This is the gas station where one of the boys worked so I simply took the logo and turned it into a decor piece.
The movie came in handy for this next piece. The Nightly Double was the drive in theater the boys used to go to. I took a still from the movie and added a general “drive in” feel logo to the top.
The next signs were a bit trickier. In the book Buck’s Bar is actually not a bar at all but just Buck’s home. In the book it states that there is a neon sign in the bar so that’s where I took my inspiration from.
While The Dingo (the diner) is mentioned in the book, no actual picture of the outside of the diner shows up in the movie. You only see the building part where the cars park. So I used my imagination and came up with a sign that I thought a diner would have in the 60s. Why did I put est. 1967? That’s the year the book was written.
Finally, no party is complete without a cake topper. Of course the cake topper had to be a picture of all the boys and the famous line, Stay Gold. It’s a hard world out there and things change before you even notice. Take time to look at the sunrise and the sunset because “nothing golden can stay.”
Honestly, this was probably one of my favorite orders. I got to use my imagination and come up with customized decor you couldn’t find anywhere else. This put my creative juices to the test and I loved every minute of it!

My client had ordered a banner online and was disappointed when it came in. It was going to be placed on a wall at the back of the room and the banner she ordered was just too small to be seen from the front of the wall. I upsized the banner for my client so that it could be seen by all.
The client had also seen a cake topper she wanted online and asked me to replicate it. Thankfully I had the file already in my library. Sometimes a simple cake topper is all you need.
It’s always nice to have my work appreciated and for people to notice the difference between my work and that of others. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.
Keep creating everyone!
Every year I make my god daughter’s birthday cake. Every year I know it will be a challenge. This year was no different!
Her theme this year was Stranger Things, based on a show on Netflix right now. Had I heard of it? Yes. Did I know anything about what I could do for a cake? Nope. So…. I asked my god daughter to design me her cake the way she would like it and I went off her design. I made a few small changes for aesthetic. Did I try to watch the show? Yes, I watched five episodes. Do I care for this show? Nope. LOL
She also needed some cupcakes to go along with the cake. She told me what toppers to make. We ended up with the lights, the logo, a saying, a skateboard, a walkie talkie and of course, the waffles.
Happy birthday to such a sweet girl. I can’t believe you are 12 already!!! I can’t wait to see what crazy idea you have for your teen years!

This stunning cake was made for Gabriel’s Baptism (or Christening). I’m starting to get more comfortable making strictly buttercream cakes. This cake was covered in buttercream and then the gold was painted on by hand. A painstaking process, but totally worth the final result!
