The first cake of 2020 was a fun one.
Who wouldn’t want a cake that had donuts, sprinkles and chocolate drip? Inside was a sprinkle vanilla cake too! Top everything off with a gold glitter topper and this cake is perfect for anyone.
Keep baking!

This hot pink drip cake was made for a special lady turning 60. Inside was a vanilla sponge cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh strawberries. White chocolate was used as the drip and then hand painted gold for an extra pop of colour. Macarons and sugar flowers adorn the cake. As well as the gold glitter topper.
Gianluca turned 2 and loves hippos! So I made him a little sprinkle cake with a handmade fondant hippo on top. A few fondant balloons and the #2 were the finishing touches for the cake. The cake was vanilla with strawberry buttercream inside.
Two weeks, two cakes with macarons! This Sweet 16 cake had a bit of a twist with meringue kisses and stars. The cake was a lemon cake with raspberry buttercream filling all covered in a sky blue buttercream with hints of pink and white buttercream to create a watercolor effect.
Simple and sweet.
Happy baking!
This year has been the year that we all turn 40. It’s been a year of parties. Some more special than the other.
When my best friend, that I’ve known since I was 6, asked me to make her birthday cake, I knew I couldn’t say no. BUT there was a twist. It was a two in one cake! Not only was it her 40th birthday cake, it was also her 15th wedding anniversary cake.
The theme was Alice in Wonderland and macarons (because those are her favorite things). She wanted a naked cake, BUT it needed to be a bit funky, so I made different colors inside.
And because you can’t have an Alice in Wonderland topper on an anniversary cake, I made a second topper specific for their wedding anniversary.
Happy birthday my dear friend and happy anniversary. May you have many many more years ahead of adventures.
Happy baking!
Sometimes when you get asked to make the same themed cake (this year it’s Unicorns), the designs can become dated and repetitive.
Luckily, I have the best clients who always challenge me. I’m not really into figure modelling so when my client asked if I could make a unicorn cake with a modeled unicorn on top, I was a bit scared. BUT… I knew that I could do it.
And so was born Miss Unicorn. It did take a few tries to get her arms and legs just right and her head wanted to keep drooping forward, but nothing a toothpick and a few days of drying couldn’t fix. A few cute flowers in her hair to hold back her mane and she was ready for the party.
Miss Unicorn needed a cake of course so I made her a vanilla cake surrounded in strawberry buttercream. Inside was a strawberry rhubarb jam filling. YUMMY!!!
I love the way the strawberries make lines through the buttercream and look all artistic. I added some clouds and OF COURSE a rainbow. I did look at the end of the rainbow, no pot of gold unfortunately, maybe next time! LOL.
Happy 5th birthday little Aarya. I hope you and Miss Unicorn have a fun filled day.
This is 40.
I won’t lie, 40 is hard. It’s the turning over of a whole new page in your life. So what better way to forget about everything that 40 means than to have a Wayback Playback birthday bash!
This party was everything I had hoped for and more: glowsticks everywhere, DJ, catered food, funky birthday cake, costume contest and of course… a dance party! SO FUN. SO ME. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to dress like it was the 80s and 90s again? Fashion was so on point.
Found myself these cute boombox favor boxes on Amazon (love you Amazon!) I added the cassette looking labels I designed and voila, a perfect favor box. Inside was a slinky, a hacky sack, a ring pop, a candy necklace and a Rubiks cube (obviously).
This was my opportunity to try out the latest trend in cake called a Biscuit cake. My take was that I did it with layers of cake instead of cookies AND I decided to go with neon buttercream icing to keep it in theme. The cake was a hit AND so easy to make, thanks to my letter/number pan. I topped the cake with some homemade cannoli, homemade brownies and candy necklace pieces.
So who won best costume………Rose and Jack of course!
Totally rad dude! Do I have to wait for 50 to throw another awesome party?? Happy birthday to me!
Around Christmastime, my goddaughter comes to me and tells me what her thoughts are on her upcoming birthday in April. Every year, I’m amazed and excited for the challenges she presents to me with her ideas. Her creative mind never ceases to amaze me!
This year, she decided to pay homage to one of her favorite YouTubers, Nerdy Nummies (aka Rosanna Pansino). Nerdy Nummies came out with a new baking line that included a cookie stamp of what Rosanna calls “The Smart Cookie”. Essentially this is a chocolate chip cookie with glasses.
So my goddaughter decided that we were going to have a baking party, hosted by yours truly. Her and 14 of her closest friends were going to make these smart cookies.
WHAT A CHALLENGE!
I had never taught a baking class before, let alone with a group of girls aged 5-12. So planning went into effect.
There were a lot of things to think about….how long was this going to take? How much icing would I need? Each girl needed a cookie stamp, a rolling pin, a box to be able to bring all the cookies home, and so much more. Thankfully, with the help of my goddaughter’s mom and my husband, we got everything ready in time. My husband decided that we were going to be making the rolling pins ourselves! That sounded fun.
Of course, the cake was going to be a fondant version of the smart cookie. Nice and simple (or so I thought), but then I was told that the inside needed to be a pinata cake (aka have sprinkles that fell out when you cut it).
After months of planning, everything worked out perfectly. The girls all loved the class and they all did amazing jobs!
This was probably as fun for me as it was for my goddaughter.
Happy 11th birthday Caila! I wonder what interesting ideas you’ll come up with next year!
The smile makes it all worth it!
